Delete your account

Last updated 21 October 2026

This page explains how to delete your account in the Check-mates app (iPhone and Android, developer: Check-mates, Belgium) and the data associated with it.

In the app (immediate)

  1. Open the Check-mates app and sign in.
  2. Go to Profile › Account & data.
  3. Tap Delete account, type the confirmation word and confirm.

Deletion takes effect immediately and signs you out on every device. It cannot be undone. If you want a copy of your data first, use Download my data on the same screen.

By email

No access to the app any more? Email privacy@check-mates.appfrom the address your account uses, with the subject "Delete my account". We confirm the request with you and complete it within 30 days (usually within a few working days), as the GDPR requires. If you signed in with Apple using a hidden email address, mention your display name so we can find the account.

What is deleted

  • Your email address, name, display name, handle and profile settings.
  • Your home area and any location you shared (beacons, play radius).
  • Sign-in methods: sessions, device tokens, passkeys and Apple/Google links.
  • Linked chess.com / Lichess accounts and your OTB rating and rating history.
  • Friends, blocks you set, favourite venues, availability slots and notification settings.
  • Push notification tokens for your devices.
  • Your upcoming games are cancelled (or the opponent is notified), pending join requests are withdrawn and upcoming events you host are cancelled.

What is kept, and why

  • Games you already playedstay, so your opponents' ratings and rating history stay correct. You appear there as "deleted player"; the remaining record carries no name, email or other personal data.
  • Messages you sent in conversations and game or event chats stay visible to the other participants, without your name.
  • Finished tournament results stay, so standings remain valid.
  • Abuse reports filed by or about you are kept for moderation and safety (legitimate interest), for at most 2 years.
  • Crash reports, if any, never contained your identity and expire automatically within 90 days.
